Join the TMAK Restoration Crew

We’re a small, owner-run remodeling shop based in Highland Heights, working kitchens, baths, and whole-home remodels across Greater Cleveland’s east side. Our crew has worked together for 10+ years, and that’s not an accident — we hire slow, we keep people, and we’d rather wait for the right person than fill a seat fast. If that’s the kind of shop you’re looking for, we want to hear from you.

A Tight Crew That Sticks Together

Our shop has stayed small on purpose. Owner Mike McCandless is hands-on — on the job and in the planning — and the crew has worked together for more than a decade, bringing over 20 years of combined remodeling experience. Homeowners see the same faces from the first walk-through to the final finish. We don’t have a revolving door because we don’t run the shop that way.

We hire when we genuinely need someone, not because a growth chart says we should. Most years we don’t hire at all. When we do, we move slow on purpose — we’d rather miss the right person than rush the wrong one onto a job.

What the Job Actually Comes With

No Surprises — Here’s the Deal

Real Remodeling Work

Kitchens, baths, flooring, cabinets, whole-home projects. Not one repetitive task all day — you learn the whole job, start to finish, on real homes.

Owner-Operated Decisions

Mike is on the job and in the office. No corporate, no regional manager, no “let me check with my supervisor.” If you’ve got a problem, you say it to the person who can fix it.

Honest Pay

Paid on time, every time. Pay reflects what you bring to the crew, and we have a straight conversation about it up front — no runaround.

Steady Work

We stay booked on referral and repeat work across the east side. That means a full schedule and steady hours, not a crew that gets sent home when one job wraps.

Learn the Trade Right

Old-school craftsmanship and attention to detail, taught by people who’ve done it for 20+ years. You’ll pick up skills that carry your whole career.

A Crew That Stays

People here work together for years, not months. When you join, you’re joining a team that already knows how the other guy works — and that wants you to stick around.

What We’re Actually Looking For

Reliability

Show up when you say you’ll show up. Call if you can’t. Our best crew members have been here for years because they’ve never made us guess.

Willingness to Learn the Trade

You don’t need to be a finish carpenter on day one. You do need to want to learn it. Our lead hands train every new person from the ground up.

Attention to Detail

Clean cuts, level tile, tight trim, and a job site left better than we found it. The small stuff is most of the job — it’s the reason customers refer us.

Valid Driver’s License

You’ll be getting to job sites across the east side. A clean, valid license keeps things simple. CDL not required.

Talks to Homeowners

You’ll be inside someone’s home for weeks at a time. You don’t need to be a salesperson — you do need to be the kind of person homeowners are comfortable having around.

Pride in the Work

We take on old-school craftsmanship with contemporary skills. If you take pride in what you build and want your name on work that lasts, you’ll fit right in.

Honest Answers About Working Here

Common Questions

Honest answer: usually no. We’re a small shop and we hire slow — maybe one person every couple of years. We keep this page up because when we do need someone, we want the right person to already know we exist. If you think you’re a fit, send the note anyway. We hold onto the good ones.

Yes. Plenty of good remodelers came from general construction, other trades, or unrelated hands-on work. If the work ethic is there and you want to learn, that matters more than a resume that already says “remodeling.” Our lead hands train new people from the ground up.

No. The work runs locally, and every project is built in person. There’s no version of this job that doesn’t involve being on a job site, and there’s no remote office role to apply for. If an office position ever opens up, it’ll be posted here.

We don’t publish a number because it depends on what you bring in the door. New hires without trade experience start lower and grow fast if the work is there. Experienced remodelers and skilled tradespeople start higher. Tell us your experience and your number when you reach out and we’ll have a straight conversation about it.

Yes — especially. Experienced, reliable tradespeople are rare. If you’ve been at another shop and want a smaller, less corporate place to land, send us your background. If we don’t have a spot today, we’ll keep your information on file and reach out when one opens.
